Who am I?

I had a identity crisis crash land into my pillow tonight with tears rolling down my face and the emotions of a teenage girl PMSing take hold of me asking me to answer the throbbing question of where do I belong and who the heck am I?

For many this comes to you as a surprise. Morgan?! The confident chick who walks down the the hallways smiling and waving at her fellow cohorts, who boldly rides Metro Transit from one side of town to another, who wears what she wants when she wants because she doesn't and has never cared what people said about her....that Morgan? Yea...that's the one.

Life is like going on a hike. It's not always easy, it can be challenging, but it can also be fun. This expedition of a hike, in which I reflected on tonight, all began when I came back from Poland. The emotions and tears that were shed when I returned were unbearable. I left people, a country, a camp, and a language all behind to return to America: Lazy, consumeristic, fat, America. Not that other countries can't be this too....this is just how I felt when I returned. I became so judgmental of all which surrounded me. I was depressed, kept distant from other people and avoided having to do anything at all. I had fully invested myself in people at the camp in Zako, where  I was placed, that it took weeks of slowly lowering myself back into the routine of Minneapolis Morgan till I was distracted enough that I could stop missing it.

This pass Spring, I decided that I wasn't going to do track and do a half marathon instead. The story of my race was a miracle in itself, let's just say that I finished the race but the moment I crossed that finished line I limped over to the medics to get ice for the sharp pain shooting though the top of my foot. The first week I could hardly walk. I was so proud of myself that I finished and I believed that my foot would get better soon and I would be back on my feet in a jiffy. Weeks go by. I knew I had learned my lesson, I had made running my idol. I had prioritized running more than I did my time with God. I looked to running to tell me that I was known for something: that energetic, crazy distance, running girl. And to even tell me day by day if I looked good on the outside based on if I had ran that day or not.

This summer, lies began to flow into my mind, consuming it to the point that I got on my knees because my head was pounding so badly that my it ached because on the days when I didn't look to my Bible to remind me what is true about myself I would turn to the mirror and ask myself if I measured up to society....in which we all fall short to both but society won't forgive me for it, it won't stop until I realized that if I live according to my sinful nature (the devil, the world, and my flesh) I will die but by the spirit if I put to death the misdeeds of the body, I will live.

As I slowly began running again, 2 miles or less, every other day, I became more thankful than I had ever been before for the abilities that God has blessed me with. I thought back to before running my half marathon and thinking, "After I run this race, I can train in the summer with 5ks and 10ks as speed work so that by the time cross country comes around I will be rip, roaring, and ready to run. This will be the best season ever!" How selfish was I! Apparently, God knew I needed to be literally knocked to my backside to learn some humility.

I got running back and spent the rest of summer on the farms where I spent a lot of my time day dreaming about life, more farming, while being surrounded by loving friends and family and the beauty of creation. Then I got in a car for two in a half hours, gabbing to my parent about my great farming life. The crops slowly vanished by changing gravel roads to pavement and corn into lots and lots of cars and people that I was not prepared to face.

I didn't think I would need a transition coming back into the city but apparently I needed one/ still need one. There were people everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Like, I don't remember there being this many people and so many people in this city....and all SO obnoxious. And the day I return, I swear my friend must have a app to locate where I am because I felt like all of a sudden the speed was turned up under my feet and instead of walking at a leisurely country pace, it was kicked up 10 noches where I needed to be doing, doing, doing, connecting, connecting connecting, talking, talking, talking, STOP! This was like Poland all over agin. I don't want to do anything with anyone and now not only do I don't like americans I don't like people thus I must not like people in a america!!  What is wrong with me. I like people....and I believe I still like americans....sometimes...

The next day I decide to have a break day but it actually made me more stressed because I thought about school and how I'm not fully at Washburn and I am no longer at the University of MN. On top of that I'm a newbie at North Central but I'm not even a real student! I thought about cross country and being a captain, a captain who doesn't even know if  I will be able to run this season, or at least not be able to to her full potential. And my church, I like my house church more than my real church, what's up with that. Then I have so many friend groups and none I am really fully apart of the group or groups. And I could go back to Poland but I can never be Polish. And you can take this city girl and put her back on the farm but you can never take that city out of that girl. I am wandering wherever, living from my backpack or suitcase, jumping from different circles of friends, cities, towns, and schools.

Running, schools, and people all of a sudden felt as if they were taken away...it's the space of the unknown that lead me to ask the question: who am I?

In life, you may notice that the course is getting tougher, or that the air is getting lighter, altitude higher, and road steeper. If you try scope out your surroundings you only find yourself in a forest, enclosed by lofty trees and you can't see out. But once you get to the top of that mountain, you can look out and you realize all you overcame during that hike. You can see over the trees that you once couldn't see through. And the rocks that you stumbled over are only the size of small ants and now you know where they are so that as you continue on your journey you won't fall over them again.
Once you return to the valley you can look up at that mountain and tell the person next to you that you climbed that and you can give them the best advice for their journey. And in the valley you will also look around and see that you are surrounded by mountain and that they are everywhere but after you do one it will only make you stronger and more cunning for the next one you will face.

I know who I am, I am a disciple. I follow Jesus where he will lead me knowing that what he asks of me will be the best way for me to live my life. I have chosen to deny my self and pick up my cross whatever it may cost me. I know that Jesus remain the same and that who I am in him on the strong days remains the same as who I am on the low days when I no longer believe the truth. I know that with my identity being found in Christ, I no longer have to care what the rest of the society and the world think of me because I was made to serve my creator and to love Him. I am called also to love all around me...even if they are obnoxious. I know that his power works best in weakness and I will delight in the hardships, persecutions, and difficulties because when I am weak, I am strong.

A letter to Wanda...

I felt like I should share this with you, and this is not just for you but for me as well:

Romans 12: 1-2

"I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, To present your bodies as a living sacrifice , holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. DO NOT BE CONFORMED to this world, but, be transformed by the renewal of your mind that by testing you may discern what is the will of God (?), what is good and acceptable and perfect."

God lead me to this verse last night and the way I wrote it above is how words poped out to me as I read it.

IT IS OUR SPIRITUAL WORSHIP TO GIVE OUR BODIES TO GOD AND DO NOT, (I repeat) DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THE PATTERNS OF THIS WORLD.

Why do we try so hard to please people?  Because we have a fear of man. A fear of being judged, not measuring up, not being successful, smart, skilled, ect, ect.... for me, I still continue to struggle with not being content in my body. Is it because the models tell me so? Maybe. Is it because athletes tell me I'm not fast enough? Probably so. Is it because our culture is so deeply embedded in how we look on the outside rather than what our heart looks like? Yes.  But why should I even care!? If we love Jesus, our gaze should be fixed on Him. He is our Lord, our Love. We should have no other idols before him and yet we still do.

1 John 1:15-16 says, " Do not love the world or the things in the world. For if anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world- the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions- is not from the Father but is from the world."

Wow. God's love isn't in us if we put the things of the world infront of him. We'll that appears to be so. "You shall have no other God's before me", we've all heard that. When I was little I was thinking statues of gold and bowing down to them now I'm thinking mannequins  in store windows and girls who bow down to celebrities, fame, success, and the person staring back at them in the mirror.  Don't But the fact of the matter is, we can't serve two masters. We can't love God and love the world.

"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me (Jesus) first. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because  you are not of this world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." John 15:18-19.

So why would we even want to conform to what the world wants us to be in it's cookie cutter, american dream, keeping up with the Jones, and always trying to one-up someone when all its going to leave us with is emptiness because we don't have God's love in us, which is the only thing that can keep us happy.

"And the world is passing away alone with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. " 1 John 1:17.

This is not to say we should not take care of our bodies, not study, and not try do our best. Going back to the original verse it says that it should be our spiritual worship to present our bodies to God. That our bodies should be a living. And by living, God means it as in not dead, because when we are living to this world we are dead to God.

"Whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" - 1 Corinthians 10:31.

Even living for God, things get tough, especially now that we know the world is going to hate our guts. But that is why we "set our minds above things above" (Colossians 3:2).

It says that "by testing we may discern what is the will of God". How will we know the will of God? We know the will of God by knowing God's heart and knowing that his will is good, acceptable, and perfect and trusting that whatever "test" may come that it is by these atributes of God that we believe good things will come. So we continue to fix our gaze on Christ and take a new grip to life with our tired hands and we strengthen our weak knees. We mark out a straight path for our feet so that even though we are weak and bruised, we will not fall but become strong. (Hebrews 12: 12-13).

Fair, farm, and family.

Day 6: What's happening to me! I'm listening to country music in the barns and am getting used to it, I showed a cow in the fair and know how to judge the difference in good dairy character, my fingers are getting calloused from hauling buckets but I'm fine with it. I even woke up this morning at 6 a.m. and was thinking, "I can get used to this", not, "here we go again".
Although I love the country, I still don't know if I can fully switch over and leave the city. Luckily I don't have to choose between the two yet. Yesterday, I got a taste of city life by changing out of my chore clothes, putting on make-up and going  to Walmart with my aunt (sadly, there is a lack of Targets in Iowa. Someone should help these people out; they don't know what they are missing out on). Then afterwards, we got drinks from Caribou, mmm, the taste of home.

So I apologize for not writing everyday. Working with animals gets a little hectic but the Farm is great. Scrubbing manure off walls, washing calves infected with ring worm, picking up sticks, and almost getting wisked away by a tornado are all memories that will stay with me (either as scars or lessons from the school of hard knocks). Then there are the lovely times spent with God eating my breakfast and praying while gazing out into a vivid, green open field and blue skys. Or good times spent with my Aunts celebrating birthdays or singing songs in the parlor while milking cows.
And the laughter shared in the Bolin household after a hard night of chores, eating ice cream and watching AFV, cheesy 60's movies, or home videos. All of which are memories that will last a lifetime and will never fade.

Cows, cows, and more cows!

Hot weather isn't the only thing that welcomed me to the farm today, thus making a "hot" farm girl out of me. Last night a bug wished me goodnight, sleep tight and told me not to let the bed him bite.  Then today, I saw a dead bloated cow today who died of heat stroke, a deceased mouse, and a spiritless bird. A moment of silence please for the fallen...thanks.

I'm beginning to get giant kinks in my neck and back from hauling buckets. Why don't the people from Jersey Shore just not move to a farm in Iowa?  I mean you don't need to go to a gym because working on the farm is your gym. You automatically get tan from being outside and then it forces you to do your laundry because otherwise the cows will be your only friends.
 They're pretty friendly though.
This is Melody. She is who I am showing tomorrow at the fair! This is my first cow to present in a fair and I'm being judged on showmanship. So smile and wave, Morgs, smile and wave.
Today I made cookies at grandma's house.
 Good times on the farm.

"Lonely driver. Out on the road. With a hundred miles to go..." -- Paul McCartney

Day One. Dad and I took the scenic route by driving down highway 55 to Iowa. Happy Birthday Paul McCartney. It was nice listening to you on the road trip down here during the Current's Coffee Break, free of the Beatles and only Paul. Take it away....not sure what... but I thought the lyrics were pretty relevant.
So just so everyone knows. I made it safely down here. Aqui! It's the Clarksville Water tower.
Defiantly isn't Minneapolis anymore.

Here we go again. It's feels like only a few day's ago when I was packing up for a 4 week stay at a camp in Poland. It's just like how it was before leaving for Poland: rain, camera, music, packing. Time for a new adventure. Time for Iowa and Blue Earth, MN.
Clothes. Clothes. Clothes. Hopefully I won't get sick of them like I did last time. Then again, who know's if anyone will really get to see these adorable outfits.

Goodbye home, sweet, home.

One last thing, LOOK! It's a baby bird! It looks a little bit deformed or something but that's just how little baby birds look.
I was kinda scared if momma bird would come and attack before I got the picture but luckily I made it out alive.
P.S. I really can't do country music. So, I apologize in advance to the people down on the farms. I'm glad we listen to the oldies while milking the cows.
